What do you think makes CFRT different than other gyms?

The coaching staff and community at CFRT are second to none. The coaching staff is knowledgeable and always willing to help. They made me comfortable with scaling the movements to what I am capable of, and never hesitate in a WOD to assist with technique. This is HUGE for me, as from the beginning I was skeptical and wanted to make sure crossfit was in my best interest. I would say being comfortable and often times encouraged to scale to ensure safety has made me extremely confident in our coaches, knowing that they will only push you to what you are capable of personally. It is hard for me to believe that I have been able to find a gym where I am able to chat with anyone, joke around, and be myself. These are the people that see me at my worst and at my best. It is the greatest feeling at the end of a WOD, when the people still working get cheered for the loudest. This is what differentiates CFRT from other gyms for me; community and quality coaching.

What kind of nutritional lifestyle do you follow?

I follow a “clean” nutritional lifestyle for the most part. This stems around the paleo concept (unprocessed foods, vegetables, fruit in moderation, no added sugar, etc.). I still eat dairy, haven’t been able to give that up yet. I do have “cheat” nights typically 1-2 times a week.

What has been your biggest accomplishment since starting at CFRT?

This is a tough one – honestly just seeing so much progress in such a little time is huge for me. My proud moment would have to be in the crossfit open last year when I got my first pullup and continued to get several for the assigned WOD that day.

What would you like others to know about CFRT?

DO NOT BE INTIMIDATED! Ok maybe I’m making you intimidated now by yelling at you, but seriously. I couldn’t even run a full mile a couple months before I started at CFRT, and here I am crossfitting 5-6 times a week, pushing my body to limits I never thought possible. Anyone and everyone can do it, and with our wonderful coaches to help scale the movements to what you are capable of, there really is nothing to worry about.

In your own words, please provide a brief history of your fitness journey, starting prior to CFRT up to the present day.

Junior year of college was really when I went downhill, with school and work taking up all of my time that I began to gain, and gain fast. To be completely honest I was in denial about how much I had gained and how out of shape I was. Fast forward a few years to my great idea of adopting a dog. Little did I know I was going to end up with the most active dog that needed some serious exercise – there began my journey! I began by taking her for runs, where I literally couldn’t make it through a mile without stopping. After some time conditioning with running, I felt like I could actually try crossfit (my sister had been doing it and kept begging me to just try). And this is where my CFRT journey starts! Everybody says I have worked so hard to get where I am today, but honestly from that point on has not felt like hard work. I have had the most fun in the past year than I ever could have imagined having at a gym. I look forward to going every day, I look forward to completing strength cycles, I look forward to seeing OTHER people hit PRs. I absolutely love the crossfit community and certainly could not be where I am today without every single one of them pushing me every day.
